Local EE & experimental scientist Dirk Beer came on the Crüe call to talk about some of the sensor work he’s done and a very cool little antenna analysis tool he built. Jameson Buffmire filled in the second half with some really interesting ideas on where Helium might go as well as the challenges & opportunities in the space. Rad call!
To be very clear, the positions expressed by Jameson in this are his own and not made or endorsed by CalChip, Nova, Helium Foundation, Orange, etc.
I still haven’t worked out a reasonable way to get chapters in here, so for now I’m pasting in the chat text. Rock ‘n roll!
10:00:19 From RM : Hey guys! ?
10:03:39 From Sean Medina : here’s to ham radio!
10:10:12 From 619OTA : is that also before and after the 100km limit ?
10:10:27 From RM : Is there any way to run this simultaneously (two antennas at the same time) and so take out some uncontrolled variables (differences on the network)?
10:11:34 From RM : or normalize it to a given variable/value that enables comparisons?
10:13:52 From RM : Hotspot Antenna Anlyzer 2.0
10:14:22 From RM : add statistical analysis for comparing period 1 with period 2 not just a descriptive results.
10:15:54 From Sean Medina : do you believe there was much bouncing of signals? hntenna is good for receiving diverse polarized signals… which result from bounces.
10:17:48 From RM : I am not able to see it … AWESOME!
10:19:48 From Nik Hawks : For RM and the rest of you who can’t see that:
10:19:50 From Nik Hawks : Beacons witnessed before: 221 after: 180
Sufficient beacons witnessed before and after the switch for a valid test? Yes
T‑test on a multivariate regression with beaconer and rssi as factors, at p= 0.95 . Actual p = 0.000000 for rssi

10:20:11 From RM : thanks @Nik

10:21:02 From Sean Medina : thank you!
10:21:05 From 619OTA : interesting. I have my HNTenna on my off grid. doesn’t do all the good. thinking of moving it to my house.
10:23:03 From Nik Hawks : @dirkbeer on Discord

10:32:14 From 619OTA : ?
10:32:22 From RM : Awesome. congrats!
10:32:25 From Lee (Team Gristle King) : Thanks Dirk!
10:32:26 From Taylor Thoenes : Thanks Dirk!!
10:32:29 From Lee (Team Gristle King) : Really cool
10:32:45 From Sean Medina : !muchas gracias!
10:45:36 From 619OTA : good to know… point my small cell towards the shopping center and not towards the military
10:47:25 From Jay M. : Testing my CPI knowledge… Wouldn’t joint Pollen/Helium setups lead to both having their spectrum limited but not eliminated, even if covering the same area?
10:51:48 From Kevin Weidemann : yeah, maybe we need a whole call on the economic relationship between MOBILE and HNT
10:52:03 From BigSkyTech : But, with that Pollen model wouldn’t the SEC consider their token a security?
10:52:07 From Lee (Team Gristle King) : @kevin I’ll write that down
10:52:17 From Michael Corum : yep
10:52:20 From RM : Agree @Kevin Weidemann
10:52:27 From Taylor Thoenes : Agreed. I would really like more info on MOBILE
10:52:30 From BigSkyTech : ?
10:52:39 From Sean Medina : Jameson — wow, hearing this information from a completely different background, is quite valuable.
10:53:05 From Sean Medina : violates which test?
10:53:25 From Jay M. : Howey Test
10:53:45 From Sean Medina : thx
10:54:21 From Taylor Thoenes : https://www.findlaw.com/consumer/securities-law/what-is-the-howey-test.html
10:54:52 From Michael Corum : Indeed
10:54:54 From BigSkyTech : Yea
10:54:56 From RM : nop
10:54:56 From Kevin Weidemann : yes
10:54:57 From CreekHound : Not me
10:55:11 From Sean Medina : not me
10:55:19 From Russ : please define dy network
10:55:26 From Kevin Weidemann : they are diverging on purpose.
10:55:46 From Michael Corum : very interesting
10:55:54 From Kevin Weidemann : HNT is not on Coinbase for the security reason
10:57:09 From BigSkyTech : I thought it was because of the structure of the blockchain and the challenges with integration? HNT on coinbase I mean.
10:58:21 From Kevin Weidemann : wow. wish support would have told me that
10:58:52 From 619OTA : lol. I didn’t read the instructions. I just asked BFGNeil
10:59:20 From Kevin Weidemann : the email with very cool, Jameson
11:00:08 From BigSkyTech : Helium is Bespoke based and is more difficult for them to integrate. Please don’t take my word on that ?. That’s what I heard as I was doing some research . But, the concerns around it as a security makes sense also. Likely combination of both.
11:00:12 From Kevin Weidemann : * very cool, Jameson (re: pricing benefit, etc)
11:00:48 From Nik Hawks : https://www.signalset.com/
11:00:53 From CreekHound : I may be depends when I already got one
11:01:42 From BigSkyTech : Any one know when Gigasky and/or Dish are going live?
11:01:50 From Sean Medina : it isn’t outdoor, a battle that will be lost to the MNOs?
11:01:56 From 619OTA : got my FFi awhile ago. looking for just a small cell
11:03:22 From Dirk Beer : Have to go — thanks all, great call & great info from Jameson.
11:03:23 From Russ : how does he pay for the data he is using? what carrier is it?
11:03:30 From Kevin Weidemann : so when will big carriers officially partner with Helium?
11:03:43 From Lee (Team Gristle King) : Thanks Dirk for all the info!
11:03:57 From Dirk Beer : Thanks Lee & Nik!
11:04:01 From Russ : In rural areas outdoor makes sense
11:04:10 From BigSkyTech : This has been awesome thanks!
11:04:46 From RM : @Nik lets plan a Part II of this meeting with Jameson ?
11:04:52 From Jay M. : Outdoor will benefit from POC in early days. Long term, indoor is the winner.
11:04:55 From Kevin Weidemann : I second R!
11:05:00 From BigSkyTech : YES
11:05:04 From Taylor Thoenes : YES pt 2
11:05:12 From RM : Thanks Jameson
11:05:12 From Jay M. : Awesome call!
11:05:16 From Lee (Team Gristle King) : Thanks jameson!
11:05:19 From Kevin Weidemann : later.
11:05:19 From Russ : great call
11:05:20 From Taylor Thoenes : Thanks all!
